New Construction

The CHANCE® Helical Pier Foundation System is perfect for a wide range of commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential applications – from new homes and high-rise structures to communication towers and boardwalks.

The helical pier foundation can be devised to resist or support any load or application. And it’s fast. It can be installed with lightweight construction equipment and loaded immediately. There’s no waiting for concrete to cure and predefined capacities are predictable, putting you in control.

Approved by national building code agencies BOCA, ICBO, SBCCI, COMC, and ICC, the CHANCE helical pier has become the deep foundation choice for architects, builders, contractors, engineers, and geotechnical firms.

HELICAL PULL-DOWN MICROPILE

Developed in 1997 for sites with especially weak surface soils, this patented innovative
application of the helical pile integrates portland cement-based grout to increase the section properties of the shaft. The CHANCE® Helical Pulldown Micropile (HPM) brings the advantages of the pre-engineered helical pile to higher load applications, providing compression loads of 20,000 lbs. to 400,000 lbs. per pile.

By “pulling down” a special flowable grout
as the micropile foundation is screwed into the soil, these helical micropiles create a deep
foundation with both a friction-bearing central shaft and end-bearing helical plates in
competent substrata.

Benefits of the CHANCE Helical Pulldown® Micropile system include:

  • Resistance to buckling in weak surface soils
  • Higher load capacity
  • Stiffer pile (deflects less at a particular load)
  • Additional corrosion protection in aggressive soils

TIE-BACKS & SOIL NAILS

CHANCE® helical tieback anchors are pre-manufactured steel anchor elements consisting of a central steel shaft and one or more helical shaped bearing plates. Helical tieback anchors provide additional lateral support for many retaining wall designs. A helical tieback anchor is installed by rotating or screwing it into the ground. Each helical bearing plate is formed into a screw thread with a uniform defined pitch. The tieback anchors are installed into the ground until the helical plates are located in load bearing soil. The tieback anchor is then attached to the wall face. Capacities up to 200,000 lbs. per anchor are obtainable with this quick and cost-effective helical tieback system.

FOUNDATION REPAIR

CHANCE® Helical Pier Underpinning Systems offer a technically superior and cost-effective alternative to tearing out and rebuilding your foundation walls. The concept is founded on the principle of screwing a helical plate attached to a steel shaft into stable subsoil until the torque applied indicates that the necessary load capacity has been achieved. Adjustable brackets are then attached to the base of your foundation walls, connecting the piers to the foundations. The weight of the building is then shifted to the piers. Foundations, walls, and floors are repositioned and restrained from further movement.

This innovative system contrasts with other methods which use the structure’s weight to force pipes down into the ground. Pipe-pile or skin-friction systems (without helical plates) can involve costly and time-consuming construction methods. Due to the extensive excavation they require, site features such as walkways and landscaping are often disturbed.

The helical pier system installs quickly with common contractor tools. The load-bearing steel shafts are screwed into the ground independent of the structure and their bearing or holding capacity is verified as the system is installed.

BOARDWALK FOUNDATIONS

Minimize construction in sensitive areas by using the CHANCE® Helical Foundation System for boardwalks and docks. Fragile areas like wetlands, marshes, beach fronts, lakes and historical sites are easily upgraded to enjoy the surrounding nature while providing an excellent environmentally sound solution where construction impact would be devastating.

The following system advantages give it accessibility to sensitive areas:

  • Minimal Disturbance
  • Transfers loads to bearing capable strata
  • Isolates structure from seasonal surfaces layer changes
  • Modular helical foundaation and extension sections
  • Portable hand-held installing equipment can be used

LIGHTING FOUNDATIONS

CHANCE® Instant Foundations provide resistance to lateral loads and moment loads due to wind and other load conditions. Typical uses and applications are foundations for equipment pads, foundation supports for signs, supports for light standards and decorative light poles in use for parking areas, campuses, malls, park & recreational areas, and street lighting.

The CHANCE Instant Foundation Systems offer the following benefits:

  • Installation can be achieved in inclement weather conditions and temperatures
  • Foundation can be salvaged for reuse when lighting standard is relocated by reversing the foundation out of the ground
  • Lower installation costs. In most locations, it requires 10 minutes with a two-man crew
  • Easy to transport – weigh between 130 to 215 pounds
  • Eliminates need for expensive anchor bolts – transformer base or lighting standard can be bolted direct to foundation base no problem of misaligning anchor bolts
  • Clean, no-excavation installation in residential and commercial areas

SOLAR/WIND FOUNDATIONS

CHANCE® is recognized around the globe as the preeminent producer of helical foundation products engineered for multiple applications, including the construction of solar and wind energy systems. The sustainable design of helical “screw” piles means that they can be re-used or easily recycled. CHANCE piles can be removed from the soil unlike treated timber or concrete piles, which are generally abandoned. The piles resist the axial forces, shear, and moment forces generally associated with wind loading.

CHANCE® Helical Foundation Systems for solar and wind applications offer the following benefits:

  • Install in minutes using standard equipment
  • Immediate Loading
  • No site preparation or excavation
  • All weather installation
  • Permanent or Temporary
  • Easily retrieved and reused
  • Ideal for areas with limited access or environmentally sensitive

UTILITY/TELECOM FOUNDATION

Guyed structure towers, self-supporting towers, substations, and switching stations are all part of the CHANCE® T/C (tension-compression) foundation and guy anchor product line. Applications in sensitive soil areas, high water tables, difficult access as well as normal soils make the CHANCE® T/C foundation a priority in transmission line construction. These helical piles can go places concrete piers cannot.

The CHANCE® guy anchor, Type SS, made with CHANCE® proprietary high strength steel can have capacities to 200,000 pounds tensile load. These anchors have been field proven over decades of service under the severest conditions.
